There are two main types of pond pumps, submersible and external (out-of-pond), also known as centrifugal pumps. Depending on the application, each pump offers specific advantages.
For use with your fountain or other water feature, the first thing is to determine your required flow rate. You will want your minimum flow rate to be at least half of your pond volume. Your pump should have a GPH (gallons per hour) also know as (LPH – Liters per hour) rating of at least half of your pond size. For example, if you have a 1000 gallon pond, then you will require a 500 GPH pond pump.
